Artist Info

Thank you for your interest in exhibiting at KOOLA Art Space! Our gallery, located in Kallio, Helsinki, is operated by Taidetila Koola ry, a non-profit artist-driven association. Exhibition fees cover venue rental during exhibitions, while all other work is done on a volunteer basis. To ensure smooth operations, we ask visiting artists to carefully review and commit to the following guidelines

Venue Information

Our exhibition space is located at Pengerkatu 9, Kallio. The space measures approximately 24m², with a total hanging space of 30m²: two walls of 4.6m x 3m each, and a hanging panel of 1.5m x 2.5m for lighter works. A floor plan is available here. Important note: The space has no backroom for storage of packaging materials or personal belongings

Supervision

Taidetila Koola ry staff supervises the exhibition. The exhibition fee includes supervision for 5 days per week (including opening). The artist can decide the opening time, other opening hours are determined by the gallery's current opening hours, which may vary slightly depending on the month. In principle, we aim to keep the exhibition open at varied times to enable visits from diverse groups (for example, in spring 2025, the gallery has been open Monday and Friday early evenings, Saturday during the day, and Tuesday & Thursday during the day/afternoon.) If you want your exhibition to be open more hours, you can purchase additional supervision at €50 / 3h. You cannot supervise the exhibition yourself.

Openings

Opening times are arranged individually with each artist. Events must not exceed 2.5 hours and must end by 19:30. All events must comply with building regulations (no loud music allowed) and adhere to fire safety capacity limits. The space has: a small round table for serving, two chairs, a small stand for brochures etc., and a small coat rack. The windowsill can also be used for brochures or serving if desired. Important note: the space has no kitchen or separate back room or storage space for personal items. If you want more space for your or guests' bags, coats, etc., you can request a larger coat rack for the exhibition space. The visiting artist must consider fire safety regulations and limit the number of invited guests according to the space size.

Publicity and Materials

Taidetila Koola ry promotes the exhibition on its social media channels and lists the exhibition in commonly used event search engines. For this purpose, the artist must provide exhibition information well in advance. The artist can naturally also promote the exhibition themselves. Taidetila Koola ry creates social media marketing materials for all exhibitions, which are used for promotion and shared with the artist, but does not print any materials. Printing of possible artwork labels, posters, brochures, and other prints is the artist's responsibility. The space has a street-facing advertising stand where you can bring your own A3-sized poster and a small stand for brochures.

Exhibition Agreement

The exhibition agreement is signed electronically between the artist and Taidetila Koola ry. It takes effect upon signing and payment of exhibition fee, covers setup, exhibition period, and dismantling, and does not include sales commission as artists handle their own sales

Cancellation Policy

In case of artist cancellation, no fee refund will be provided. If Taidetila KOOLA ry cancels, a full fee refund will be issued

Exhibition Setup and Dismantling

The artist is responsible for their exhibition setup and takedown. Setup and takedown must occur within the exhibition duration. Works should primarily be attached with nails or installation tape. Drilling must be agreed upon separately in advance with Taidetila KOOLA ry. The display panels cannot be drilled or nailed; works must be attached to existing holders or with mounting tape. Basic tools are available such as hammer, measuring tape, spirit level, etc. The artist brings their own mounting supplies like nails, tape, etc. If your works require drilling, you can either bring your own drill or ask us to bring one to the space. Please contact us about this well in advance. Note that you are responsible for covering drill holes and obtaining the covering material. Any damage to walls must be restored to original condition and works must be removed from the space by 21:00 on the final day of the exhibition contract. If works are left in the space or drill holes are not repaired, Taidetila Koola ry will charge the artist a €150 cleaning/storage fee.

Insurance and Responsibilities

Artists are responsible for insuring their works, as Taidetila Koola ry does not provide artwork insurance. Artists are liable for any damage to gallery property during setup/dismantling. Taidetila KOOLA ry is not liable for external damage
