SANNA KOSKIMÄKI
Glitter Camouflage
Above me arches the sky, endless space hidden behind the blue. Below me, water - life's genderless womb. The spectrum of sunlight creates a rainbow with water molecules. Its end descends into the heart of a water lily. "Bisexual flower, perfect flower."
Nature is queer.
And I am a homo animal.
Whatever you can imagine, it exists in nature. Nature encompasses all possible genders, sexual orientations, ways of reproduction, and all possible ways of being. Nature's diversity has evolved over 4 billion years, and this diversity exists within us humans too.
"If anyone struggles to understand human diversity, they would benefit from reading about nature. This is simply how nature works - everything is always more complex than any binary." — Venni Keskiniva, PhD
The Glitter Camouflage exhibition is my tribute to nature's diversity. In the exhibition's works, I have combined themes of queerness, nature, collaboration, and love. I want visitors to recognize parts of themselves through the exhibition's pieces. Nature is not a place separate from us but part of who we are.
